Before getting into bed
- Charge the iPhone. Place it where the system alarm will be audible.
- Check AirPods comfort. Use the fit you can tolerate while settling down; do not force yourself to wear an uncomfortable earbud.
- Choose a conservative level. The sound should sit behind the room, not dominate it.
- Confirm alarm permission. AirAlarm needs AlarmKit authorization to schedule the final alert.
- Set the latest safe time. Include enough buffer for the real morning obligation.
During the wind-down
Start a built-in sound or supported external media. AirAlarm watches for a sustained pause or AirPods route change. A short confirmation period prevents an instant response to a brief interruption. When confirmed, the sound fades and the app schedules the alarm.
You can remove the AirPods as you settle down. They do not need to remain in place all night for the already-scheduled iPhone alarm.
Keep listening exposure modest
The World Health Organization explains that both volume and duration affect hearing risk. It recommends keeping personal-device volume no higher than 60% of maximum, monitoring exposure where possible, and taking breaks from sound. For a quiet bedroom, a much lower level may be enough.
Stop if you notice pain, pressure, skin irritation, ringing, or hearing changes. AirAlarm cannot determine whether a listening level is safe for your individual hearing.
Run a daytime reliability test
- Use the same iPhone position and Focus settings planned for bedtime.
- Schedule an alarm a few minutes ahead.
- Lock the screen and confirm the AlarmKit alert appears and sounds.
- Check the alert volume from the bed, not from beside the phone.
- Repeat after any major iOS update or permission change.
Use a backup when consequences are high
No single consumer setup should be your untested first line for a flight, medical schedule, caregiving duty, exam, or important shift. Keep a separate Clock alarm or physical alarm until you know how AirAlarm behaves with your device, room, and nightly habits.
Morning check
After dismissing the alarm, confirm that the saved record and scheduled time look reasonable. If the AirPods disconnected while you were still awake, the estimated sleep start may be early. Treat the record as a practical log, not a clinical measurement.
